Michael Kay and Peter Rosenberg got into it over the disappointing Yankees.

On the ESPN New York and YES Network simulcast of “The Michael Kay Show” on Wednesday, Kay said that last year’s Bombers swoon was triggered by DJ LeMahieu’s injury and then a postseason without the infielder and Andrew Benintendi and a hobbled Matt Carpenter hampered the team against the Astros in the ALCS.

Kay said this explained why the Yankees fashioned themselves as “better than a .500 team” last offseason and only made a couple of acquisitions, such as Carlos Rodon and retaining Anthony Rizzo, who was severely affected by a concussion this season.

“I think they thought they were going to be a lot better, but now we see the flaw in that,” Kay said.

Then, business started to pick up.
