Ratha Yatra Festival - Mombasa, Kenya - 24th June 2023

The English term "juggernaut" which most people are familiar with means "irresistible force" and is derived from the Sanskrit word Jagannatha which means "Lord of the Universe." Lord Jagannatha truly embodies an irresistible force, because He is none other than Krisna: the "Supreme Personality of Godhead." The annual procession of the Deity of Krisna in the form of Jagannatha carried on the Ratha chariot enacts one of the world's oldest and largest festivals. A celebration dating back thousands of years in India. The first-ever Ratha-yatra in the western world was organized by Srila Prabhupada in San Francisco on July 9, 1967. This festival soon became popular and is now celebrated in all major cities across the world. The history of Lord Jagannatha is a story of devotion, the eternal love between man and God. It tells how the prayers of a devotee caused the Lord to make His appearance in a wondrous way. And it shows how Krisna came as the Deity Jagannatha, so that He could accept loving service from all classes of men.
