1963 Dodge Dart GT Hardtop 5.7L Hemi Build Project

Engine:
Replacing the original Slant Six is a ’05-vintage 5.7L Hemi crate engine, with once-exotic (now regular-production) stuff like two-plug aluminum heads, roller camshaft and electronic fuel injection, plus a Hotwire harness and ECU. Jeep SRT8 exhaust manifolds combine with Hushpower mufflers in a Hemi-capable dual exhaust system.

Transmission:
A 545RFE overdrive automatic from an ’05 RAM pickup, with a Trans-Go shift kit and a console-mounted Hurst shifter.

Rear:
Currie built the rearend with 31-spline axles, Detroit Tru-Trac differential, and 3.50 gears.

Suspension:
(Front) Replacing the well-worn stock hardware is Reilly Motorsports’ AlterKtion system with QA1 coilovers, a 11⁄8-inch sway bar, and a Flaming River steering rack (Rear) Leaf springs were moved inboard, with KYB gas shocks and a 3⁄4-inch Hellwig sway bar.

Brakes:
Wilwood’s four-piston Dynalite calipers and 12-inch rotors at all four corners

Wheels/Tires:
Billet Specialties Apex G wheels (17×7 inches in front, 18×10 inches in back) wear BFGoodrich Radial TA KDWs (205/50R17 in front, 285/40R18 in back)

Paint/Body:
Mike replaced the front floorpans, mini-tubbed the rear wheelwells, and fixed some small rust holes on the original ’63 Dart hardtop unibody—and its bolt-on steel—before he smoothed it and sprayed on the two-stage PPG Sage Green and added the rear spoiler. Bumpers, widow trim, and taillight bezels were de-chromed and painted matte black.

Interior:
The well-worn OEM seats were replaced with ’07 Cadillac CTS-V front buckets flanking a floor-mounted Hurst shifter. AutoMeter Carbon Face gauges fill a custom-designed dash cluster, a Grant steering wheel graces an ididit tilt steering column, and Glynn Upholstery in Seekonk, Massachusetts, installed the new suede headliner and custom carpets.
