Digitalisation and the explosion of big data has already altered our lives in ways that seemed unimaginable in the past: data is now transforming the way we work, the way we communicate, the way we socialize, even the way we fall in love. In the future of big data and AI, intelligent machines will often make decisions for us on big matters like our health and safety and smaller ones like what we might enjoy for lunch on a given day. But should we trust the computer when it says “no”? In this talk, I will explore how big data and artificial intelligence are creating a world of assisted decision-making and suggest ways of navigating the risks that new technological advancements are creating for the maximum benefit of humanity. Christina grew up in Limassol but spent 15 years of her life studying and working in the UK. After a PhD in Machine Learning at the University of Oxford, she worked as a researcher in digital healthcare, investigating how machine learning techniques applied to physiological signals can prevent bad things from happening to good people. While at Oxford, Christina spent years waking up at 6am to practice rowing which prepared her very well for motherhood! In 2012, she moved back to Cyprus with her husband and baby, had another baby and now spends her weekdays as a data analytics and artificial intelligence consultant and her weekends shouting at the referee during children's football matches.
