Описание к видео A field trip to Akuse, Amedeka and Shai Hills Resource Reserve | Doing Archaeology in Ghana

Whenever Archaeology in Africa is mentioned, one of the most popular places that come into mind is Egypt. However, several other sites with interesting discoveries and histories exist in other countries and Ghana is one of them. This video captures an experience of doing archaeology in Ghana from the perceptive of Level 300 undergraduate students from the University of Ghana. It demonstrates practical explanations of some basic methods and techniques used in archaeological fieldwork. The first part of the video captures a visit to Akuse/Amedeka which is the earliest inland port in present day Ghana. There, the students worked in groups to complete various tasks such as conducting reconnaissance survey. The later part of the video shows the first archaeological excavation that took place at the Shai Hills Resource Reserve. During this visit, the students had the chance of seeing and learning about some objects and remains that were discovered during the first excavation. Presently, most of the objects are on public display along with new collections at the Museum of Natural and Cultural Heritage at Shai.
