Legendary vibraharpist, Vincent Montana, Jr., performs "Fly Me To The Moon" from his 'latest' LP "A Dance Fantasy" on The Steel Pier Show in 1978. This is 1 of 3 LPs he released with The Montana Orchestra on Atlantic Records during that same year. The Montana Orchestra features Philadelphia's most prominent musicians; many of Montana's session mates who were the main members of both the MFSB and The Salsoul Orchestra. From 1958 to 1978, a popular television dance show named "Summertime on the Pier" hosted by Ed Hurst was broadcast live every Saturday and Sunday in the summer months from the Marine Ballroom at the end of the Steel Pier. This video is from the final season / 20th year. The Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was a mile long structure that got it's name from its steel underpinnings, the rest being largely made of wood. Opened in 1898, the Steel Pier was known as "The Showplace of the Nation", featuring an amusement park with high-diving horses, water-skiing dogs and human cannonballs, exhibits, sideshows and live music. Acts who performed on the Steel Pier over the years included everyone from Al Jolson, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra to the Rolling Stones and Smokey Robinson. About Us: Among the numerous credits to his name, Vincent Montana, Jr. is most recognized for his integral role in both the development of "The Philadelphia Sound" as key MFSB rhythm section member and established studio musician for Philadelphia International Records as well as dance pioneer of the "Disco Era" as the creative and driving force behind the legendary Salsoul Orchestra. Further contributions include his remarkable productions with The Montana Orchestra and Goody Goody (Atlantic Records) and particularly, the signature club classics on his own Philly Sound Works label. Today Montana continues to make his mark on the industry, whether directly through his latest productions on Philly Sound Works and his efforts with today's most prominent artists and producers such as Masters At Work, The Braxtons, Joceyln Brown, Pet Shop Boys, David Morales, Dimtri From Paris, or indirectly via sampling of his catalogue: Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) or most recently Mariah Carey "O.O.C. (Out of Control)" to name a few.
