a Muslim man in Khordha district was arrested for allegedly raping a Hindu woman on the pretext of marriage and pressuring her to undergo a religious conversion.

According to reports, accused Alim Uddin Shah deceived the woman by posing as a Hindu man around eight years ago and the two had an affair. He promised to marry the woman but raped her repeatedly for the past few years.

When the woman began insisting on marriage, the accused started forcing her to change her religion and kept insisting to eat beef, she alleged.

On the other hand, the victim opened up and accused Shah of forcing her into a religious conversation. But the police have not mentioned Section 295 (A). This Section lays down the punishment for the deliberate and malicious acts, that are intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

Many lawyers opined that the case should be Freedom of Religion Act that says no person shall convert or attempt to convert, either directly or otherwise, any person from one religious faith to another by the use of force or by inducement or by any fraudulent means nor shall any person abet any such conversion.

Jajpur, Dec 18: Dharmasala Police on Thursday night arrested a Muslim man for allegedly kidnapping a Hindu girl of Jajpur district in Odisha and trying to convert her to Islam by marriage.

The accused has been identified as Seikh Abdul Khan.

As per reports, the young girl had gone to VN College, Jajpur Road on December 5 to issue a migration certificate. Later in the evening, she went missing while her mobile phone was found to be switched off.

Her family members soon lodged a complaint with Dharmasala Police station.

The family members of the victim said that Khan was earlier forcing the girl to have love affair with him and change her religion. As the girl refused to do so, Khan threatened to kidnap her. Her family members had alleged it was a case of ‘Love Jihad’.

Later, the victim reportedly told her mother over telephone that she was being kidnapped by Khan and kept in a hotel in Puri. The girl also told that she was being tortured by Khan and his family members. She will be taken to a Masjid at Sutahat in Cuttack.

Her family members alerted the police in this regard. Following which, Police arrested prime accused Seikh Abdul Khan and rescued the girl.

Police had earlier arrested Hamid Khan, father of Shaikh Abdul Khan, for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping.
