‘Pearl and Dagger’ is a new British-Japanese musical telling the story of Tokoyo, a young girl who, when her father is wrongfully imprisoned on a mysterious island, must save him and discover the truth about the island, her family and real bravery.

The show had its first sold-out workshop at The Other Palace in November 2019, produced by the Japan Foundation and Théatre Lapis. However, when further plans were stalled by the pandemic, the creative team reached out to performers from around the world, to create these videos as a showcase for the piece.

Here, Christopher Chung (‘Heathers’) and Frances Mayli McCann (‘Les Miserables’) sing ‘Don’t Look Away/Remedy Song’. This is sung when Tokoyo’s father Master Oribe Shinkai is visited in a cell by the spectre of his deceased wife, contemplating his own moral code, his grief, and his difficult relationship with his daughter.
