Finance firms and headhunters are ultimately looking for hard working and smart candidates that they can get along with. Hiring is a very difficult process even for firms, so they often rely on several external markers when making this decision. I find that your firm and your school still matter the most when it comes to getting interviews.

After that, I think your geography and the deals you're doing have the most influence, followed by networking, clubs and finally your grades. What's important to recognize is that if you're already in the workforce, you should focus on things that you can change. Focus on getting better deals and putting in time every week to expand your network.
