(Recorded using the c major scale. ) This beginner friendly singing warm up, 1 121 warm up starts with an example and then the piano only, followed by a slightly faster version. 1 121 is some thing I use with a lot of my students as it's popular and good for groups and individual lessons. 1 121 12321 is a great vocal exercise for diction, pitch and breath control. You can always switch it up by using Solfege ( do, do re do) instead of numbers in this 1 121 vocal warm up. Use this with your other vocal warm ups, singing exercises and choir warm ups. The scale degree numbers are relevant to music theory. Each scale degree has a technical name as written below.

1st degree – The tonic
2nd degree – The supertonic
3rd degree – The mediant
4th degree – The subdominant
5th degree – The dominant
6th degree – The submediant
7th degree – The leading note (or leading tone)
