Carlo Acutis, the first millennial to be a saint, who died of leukemia at age 15, is venerated in Assisi's Sanctuary of the Spoliation, where his body, considered a relic, is permanently displayed in a glass case. He had expressed a desire to be buried in Assisi, like the legendary saint Francis of Assisi. Exhumed in January 2019 and moved to the Sanctuary (also known as the Shrine of the Renunciation) on April 6, 2019, his body is presented in a wax layer, a common practice for displaying saints. The shrine's rector stated that Acutis' body was found "fully integral, not intact, but integral, having all its organs." A first-class relic of Acutis, two snippets of his hair, is also available for veneration. Pope Francis has approved his canonization for April 27, 2025.
