Pearl Canada & Doug Oliver from My Darkest Days set out to run a contest where a deserving kid would get a brand new Pearl VBA drum kit, same as Dougie's. Along with a whack of Vater drumsticks and a set of Sabian cymbals.
Eric sent in his entry and he were floored by his story, there was our winner! Here is his winning entry
"I deserve to own a Pearl Limited Edition VBA 6 piece kit with hardware because....": of my enormous struggle which started on May 1st, 2010 when I was a pedestrian hit by an SUV at 100km/hr. After being airlifted to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, my family were informed that my chances of survival were minimal. I suffered cardiac arrest four times, was paralyzed on my entire right side, had five brain surgeries and fought for my life in hospital for six months. With my will to survive, I beat the odds, although I am still struggling with communication and physiotherapy. Upon my release from hospital I have undergone extensive therapy with Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. Given my love of music, my therapists have suggested that drum lessons would be the most beneficial for my coordination, concentration, physio and muscle development. Learning music theory is a fantastic aid in my brain recovery as well. I was donated an old set of student drums in order to continue with my lessons. As I have limited income at the moment because I cannot work, I am gradually replacing some of my kit with Pearls, which I am very proud of. My parents have not been able to work since the accident and there is no income available to get me a new kit. I would be so proud and thrilled to own a complete set of Pearls. I love the engineering, quality and sound of the Pearls and they are durable, which is a big plus as a drummer. Given the fact that I may not be able to speak properly for the rest of my life, drumming is something I would definitely consider as a career, as I can express myself fully through the language of music. And on a lighter "note", my grandmother's name is Pearl."
