What precisely is 'paap'?
People around us have always told us that "paap" involves wanting terrible things for others and engaging in bad behaviour. Let us look at it through the lens of the Bhagavad Geeta. We'll discuss a reference made by Lord Krishna when speaking with Arjuna on the battlefield.
Once upon a time, there was a quarrel between a donkey and a tiger about the colour of the grass. The donkey stated that the grass was red, but the tiger said that it was green. They went to King Lion's palace and expressed their disappointment at not being able to resolve this never-ending debate. After a long time, the king announced that the grass was red and ordered the tiger to be imprisoned. Tiger was quite disappointed and inquired as to what he had done. The lion stated that the grass was obviously green, but why was he fighting with a donkey over it? He also wasted the king's time.
Killing someone does not fall under paap; you must examine whether it is actually worth the time. Lord Krishna had stated in the first chapters that no one could harm anyone since our inner core/philosophy is immortal. The time we spend on activities that do not serve our karma is paap. We must be very careful with how we use our time; it should not be spent on tasks that are unrelated to our karma. It is important that we understand this concept in order to avoid performing an uncountable number of paap every day.
Happiness-sadness, win-loss, and profit-loss should all be considered neutral when performing any activity so that we do not waste time and hence do not perform paap.
