A day or so back I felt the need to show folk that I am not just a pretty face (Ee (my missus) is in no doubt about that .... I never stop telling her) perhaps because I am not even that ........ a pretty face ....!!

Some of you perhaps know that I dropped out of the business at some stage – forty years ago to be precise – and trained myself as a cabinetmaker – I set up a business with a partner

We did pretty well making on the whole commission stuff –
One of our main strengths was that we were very good problem solvers – and would do anything- at a price! .....

One of my most obscure jobs was making some furniture for the largest (at the time) single-masted boat in the world –The Sloop ‘Aquel’ –
It was built in New Zealand in aluminium and the material, we were using to make the furniture ,we had never heard of (F-Board) – jointing it required the use of seriously obnoxious glues!!! Yuck!! – and all of this was built to be shipped to & fitted in New Zealand from 1:50 scale plans – given the compound curves in boats quite a tricky feat!

Now --- All this blurb is simply to back up a point of me inventing something to allow me to print a Net Curtain image on 25 meters of paper and put it up in some French windows to fool the Neighbours (not mention the local authority) as to what was behind the paper (some 100 mm thick soundproofing for my studio – cars racing past create havoc with my recordings).....I could of course have bought some real net curtains at about ¼ of the time and money invested - but once I have an idea I tend to blind myself against alternatives – apart from anything else ...How bloody boring ....! It took me a week to fit the wretched sound proofing (EE, my work mate, is in Lithuania) – you cannot get the staff these days!! And the ‘NET CURTAINS’ were the icing on the cake!

I was so chuffed with myself that two thirds through the process I decided to make a video of the rig.

there is a detailed sketch section – for the technically minded, pause the video, if it flies by too quickly - The rig was about as insecure as one could make – just cramps to hold things in place - and I nearly came unstuck !! 
