The popular travel website Trip Advisor named Clark County Wetlands Park as one of the Las Vegas area’s best attractions. Clark County’s largest and most rustic park is a haven for bird watchers and wildlife lovers. Trip Advisor recently awarded Clark County Wetlands Park with a Certificate of Excellence for consistently receiving outstanding reviews on the travel site from its website users. Most visitation at Clark County Wetlands Park centers around the 210-acre Nature Preserve and Nature Center, which includes an indoor museum with interactive exhibits. Nature Center hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. A schedule of upcoming events at the park is posted on the Wetlands Park pages of Clark County’s website at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov. Summer highlights include free “Nature Tales” sessions for families from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on the following Saturdays this summer: July 11, July 25, Aug. 1, Aug. 29 and Sept. 5. The sessions include a nature-themed story and craft activity. Clark County Wetlands Park also is hosting two, free “Hot Summer Night” discovery walks on Saturday, July 18, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 19, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants must be able to walk 2 to 3 miles. Pre-registration is required. You can sign up for the walks on the Wetlands Park website. Clark County Wetlands Park is located at 7050 Wetlands Park Lane, about 1 mile east of Boulder Highway off Tropicana Avenue. Outdoor hours in the Nature Preserve are dawn to dusk seven days a week, and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. in other areas. Summertime visitors who plan to hike or walk are encouraged to come early to enjoy the coolest temperatures of the day. Visitors also should wear sunscreen, hats with a wide brim, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and bring plenty of water. The area is home to 212 species of birds and more than 70 species of mammals and reptiles from spiny soft shell turtles to American coots, beaver and coyotes. At 2,900 acres, most of Clark County Wetlands Park is undeveloped and shaped by urban runoff and reclaimed water that flows through the Las Vegas Wash into Lake Mead. The park has about 20 miles of walking trails, including six within the Nature Preserve.
