Lacy is 18 years old and from Castro Valley. She recently graduated high school, and during her junior year, she met some friends who were Muslim. Before that, she knew very little about Islam and had never really been interested. One day, she saw her friends praying and became genuinely curious about what they were doing. When she asked them, they shared that they were Muslim, and she thought it was really cool. This sparked her curiosity, and she began asking more questions, learning about their faith and practices.

Over the summer, Lacy studied Islam more deeply. By last fall, her curiosity had grown even stronger, and she felt ready to take her Shahada – the declaration of faith. Witnessing the prayers of her friends showed her the beauty of outward devotion and how it can inspire others. It has been a transformative and deeply moving experience for her.

With the support of the MCC community, Lacy was welcomed into a loving and supportive environment, where she could learn about the pillars of Islam, join sisterhood gatherings, and grow in her faith. Taking her Shahada in such a warm and encouraging space was a life-changing moment, and she looks forward to continuing her journey in Islam.
