MAʻO Organic Farms - Hawaiʻi Good Food Alliance Partner

MAʻO Organic Farms is a non-profit social enterprise located on the Waianae Coast of Oahu, Hawaii. The organization's mission is to provide opportunities for young people to become leaders in the local sustainable agriculture movement, while also growing and distributing organic produce to the community.

MAʻO Organic Farms was founded in 2001 by Gary & Kukui Maunakea-Forth, who was inspired by the idea that agriculture could be a powerful tool for community development and youth empowerment. The organization started as a small farm with just a handful of employees, but has since grown to become a major player in the local food scene.

Today, MAʻO Organic Farms grows a wide variety of organic fruits and vegetables, including kale, lettuce, eggplant, and sweet potatoes. They distribute their produce through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, as well as through local farmers markets, restaurants, and grocery stores.

In addition to growing and distributing food, MAʻO Organic Farms also runs a youth leadership program called Youth Leadership Training (YLT). YLT is a two-year program that provides young people with hands-on training in sustainable agriculture, business management, and leadership. Through YLT, participants learn valuable skills that they can use to build successful careers in agriculture or other fields.
