Dr. LaTonya Hickson, an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Nephrology and Hypertension at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, examines the association of depression, hospitalizations and emergency department visits in young adult hemodialysis patients in her article appearing in the March 2018 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings. She notes that depression is common in young dialysis patients and that they are more likely to be hospitalized in the first year after dialysis start which suggests a higher need for support in this group of patients.
