This is Stepanos Church in Jolfa, Tabriz, East Azerbaijan

Stepanos Jolfa Church is one of the most famous architectural works of the Safavid period in Iran. This church is located in the city of Julfa and was built in 1606 AD by Shah Abbas I. The name of this church was taken by the order of the king from the name of one of the Christian witnesses named Stephen.

This church has a unique design and architecture that is a combination of Iranian and European architectural elements. Its exterior is designed using white and black bricks, and the interior of the church also has religious artworks such as wall paintings and icons.


Among the important features of this church, we can mention its sloping architecture, two floors, ideal view and having more than 1200 square meters of area. Also, this church is considered as one of the most important Christian religious centers in northwest Iran and was registered as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2008.
