I present an excerpt from St. Basil's book, "On The Spirit" which discusses the indispensable nature of authoritative oral teaching in the Church's Holy Tradition.

CORRECTION At some point during this video, I mention that catechumens in the ancient church were escorted out of the nave of the Church prior to the liturgy of the faithful. In reality, that was a mistake. The truth is, they weren't even ALLOWED into the nave of the Church for the liturgy at all! They were actually only allowed in the narthex--essentially a vestibule--and were escorted from there; a reality which literally just makes the point more powerfully haha. (Thanks Fr. Alexei!)
