Este documental está basado en las memorias de Jesús Salas: Obreros Unidos: Las raíces y el legado del movimiento de los trabajadores agrícolas. Reflexiona sobre la lucha histórica de los trabajadores agrícolas migrantes latinos durante la década de 1960. Llegaron de la frontera de Texas huyendo de condiciones de vida similares a las del apartheid sudafricano. Cien mil trabajadores con sus familias seguían rutas cada año para trabajar en los campos agrícolas. This documentary is based on Jesus Salas' memoir: Obreros Unidos: The Roots and Legacy of the Farmworkers Movement. It reflects on the historical struggle of the Latino migrant farmworkers during the 1960's. They came from the Texan border fleeing similar to South African apartheid living conditions. One hundred thousand workers with their families followed routes every year to work in the agricultural fields, Wisconsin had the most progressive labor laws however these laws were not made effective for them so they united in a movement that dared to confront the employers who denied them their rights. In this struggle, the migrant families did not have access to health services, or housing. Their children faced barriers to gaining an education. Only 15 Latino students were registered at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Now there are 3000 Latino students. New social services organizations were created as the legacy of this movement. United Migrant Opportunity Service, UMOS, one of the biggest Latino organizations has 100 million dollars in revenue. Mexican Fiesta and its foundation were created to provide scholarships for Latino students.
