Hollow Barley Twist Vase

Описание к видео Hollow Barley Twist Vase

Join me on an incredible woodworking journey as I tackle a project that once seemed impossible: crafting a hollow vessel with a stunning barley twist. This video demonstrates a traditional technique executed with modern tools. The challenges involved in creating this intricate piece, from concept to the final polished vase mainly involve the delicate nature of end grain having short grain issues.

For years, I dreamed of making this unique hollow vessel, but the thought of carving a spiral on the end grain, with its notorious short grain issues, kept me from attempting it. However, after experimenting with another test piece and refining my approach, I discovered a method that not only works but can result into various other forms. The approach is to taper the top so the short grain/endgrain is still supported.
