Astro Bot is a platform game developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It serves as a sequel to Astro's Playroom (2020) and is the third installment in the Astro Bot series. Released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024, the game received universal acclaim from critics for its engaging platforming mechanics and innovative use of the DualSense controller.

Gameplay:
Astro Bot is a 3D platformer where players control Astro, a small robot, with familiar abilities such as jumping, hovering, punching, and spinning. The game includes 80 levels across six galaxies and 50 planets, offering different difficulty settings (Easy, Normal, Hard) for both main and optional challenge stages. Post-launch downloadable content (DLC) will expand the game further with more levels and challenges.

Key features include:

DualSense Integration: The DualSense controller is used extensively, with its adaptive triggers and haptic feedback enhancing gameplay, such as piloting the "Dual Speeder" spaceship.
Rescue Missions: The game involves rescuing Bots, with 300 Bots in total and 150 unique V.I.P. Bots referencing PlayStation characters.
New Abilities: Astro gains 15 new abilities, including special tools like the Bulldog Booster for air-dashing and the Twin-Frog Gloves for ranged attacks and swinging.
Collectibles: Coins are scattered throughout levels and can be used in a Gatcha machine for unlocking items tied to the V.I.P. Bots, as well as for uncovering secrets using a helper bird.
Plot:
Astro and his crew are attacked by a green alien, Space Bully Nebulax, who steals the ship's CPU, scattering the Bots across various planets. Astro embarks on a journey to rescue his crew and retrieve the lost parts of their mothership, fighting bosses in each galaxy. After a climactic final battle with Nebulax, Astro sacrifices himself but is revived by his crew, continuing his adventure across the stars.

Development:
Team Asobi started development after completing Astro's Playroom and created their largest game to date with around 60 developers. Notably, the game does not support PlayStation VR2 but focuses heavily on utilizing the DualSense controller's features. Music for the game was composed by Kenneth C. M. Young, known for his work on previous Astro titles.

Astro Bot introduces new features, expanded content, and a larger scale compared to its predecessors, while staying true to its charming platforming roots.

AstroBot, particularly recognized from the "Astro Bot" series developed by Sony's Japan Studio, is a popular platformer series that gained fame with the release of Astro Bot Rescue Mission for the PlayStation VR in 2018. Here's a breakdown of key points about AstroBot:

Astro Bot Rescue Mission – This VR-exclusive game became a standout title for the PSVR, praised for its innovative use of virtual reality, intuitive mechanics, and creative platforming elements. You control a small robot, Astro, on a mission to rescue his crew scattered across levels filled with obstacles, puzzles, and enemies. The VR perspective allowed for a unique way to experience a platformer, as players had to physically move to view the levels and assist Astro.

Astro's Playroom – Released as a free game pre-installed on the PlayStation 5, Astro's Playroom is a charming, non-VR platformer designed to showcase the PS5's DualSense controller features, like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The game also serves as a love letter to PlayStation's history, filled with Easter eggs, references to past consoles, and beloved games. It received wide acclaim for its engaging gameplay, nostalgic value, and its ability to introduce players to the PS5 hardware.
