The city of about 51,000 people between Dayton and Cincinnati is where Vice President-elect JD Vance calls his hometown. Wednesday, some people of Middletown, Ohio were celebrating his win.

It was a rainy day in the city’s downtown, but the election results were on the minds of the few people walking from place to place.

“I feel great. Awesome actually,” said Gary Slamka, a Middletown resident. “We need him. Middletown isn’t what it used to be. When I was little it was a great town. He’s a good man. We’re in good hands and I love Trump.”

Another woman said she’s a supporter of Trump and Vance but needs them to follow through on their promises now that they’ve won the race.

“I think it’s really cool. Just be able to get our name out there and see what he’s got. I just hope he stands up to his word. That’s my biggest thing is trust,” said Amy Hagin. “I hope he can do better than what we’ve had before honestly.”

She echoed some of Vance’s sentiments from his campaign that Middletown isn’t what it once was and said she hopes her choice was the right one and that some change can come from it.

“If he can make our country better, please do it. We need help. They’re struggling. Single moms out here. There’s more homeless people since COVID. It’s sad, it really is,” she said.
