Early Life & Beginnings

Real name: Shankar. He was popularly known as Robo Shankar, a name he earned because of his robot-style dance performances in village shows.

Born on 24 December 1978 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Started off as a mimicry artist and in stand-up comedy. He got early popularity through the TV comedy reality show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru? on Vijay TV.

His film debut had uncredited or very small roles; one early film was Rowthiram (2011), though most of his scenes were edited out.

The breakthrough came with Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013) where his comic timing got noticed.

Other notable films include Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014), Maari (2015), Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran (2016), Irumbu Thirai, Viswasam, among others.
