Disgraced MSP Derek Mackay will not face criminal charges over hundreds of social media messages he sent to a 16-year-old boy.  Police Scotland said it had concluded its inquiries and “there is nothing to suggest that an offence has been committed”.   PAISLEY DAILY EXPRESS: Live news as it happens  A spokeswoman said anyone with further information should contact police.  The Renfrewshire North and West politician resigned as Scotland’s finance secretary in February this year after it was revealed he sent 270 messages to the schoolboy on social media.   News:  Among the 270 messages sent, Mackay urged the boy to keep the chats between them private and called the teen “cute” before suggesting he should delete the message.  The 42-year-old MSP invited the boy to dinner and to attend a rugby event.  The former council leader also messaged SNP activist Shaun Cameron, who subsequently revealed he had been hounded online by Mr Mackay despite only meeting him once at a fundraising dinner in 2016.  One of the messages Mr Cameron received from the politician asked him for “naughty pics”.  The disgraced politician - who has not been available for comment since the revelations - announced he would be stepping down from his post just hours before he was due to deliver the budget in Scottish Parliament.   News:  He released a statement apologising “unreservedly” to the boy and his family.  He added that he had “behaved foolishly” and took full responsibility for his actions.  His actions also saw him suspended from the SNP after being accused of the “grooming” behaviour.  First Minister Nicola Sturgeon addressed the revelations, stating it was not an option for him to remain in his position and that the Renfrewshire North and West MSP was suspended, pending an investigation.  Ms Sturgeon confirmed Derek Mackay was ill and remained suspended from the political party.   News:  A spokesman for the SNP said: “We understand Derek Mackay is currently under medical supervision. He remains suspended from the SNP.”  Renfrewshire councillors also unanimously voted for Mackay to quit as an MSP during the last full council meeting.  The SNP-run council backed a motion stating he was unfit for office and should resign with immediate effect.  Although none of the SNP members spoke on the motion – which was lodged by Labour group leader Eddie Devine and seconded by Councillor Jim Sharkey – there was no amendment presented and no members voiced any opposition.
