Charlotte & Western does some switching at the Transload and staging yard at Park and Chestnut St in East Gastonia. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of business Charlotte & Western has developed the last couple of years. It reminded me of the Seaboard Era of the 80s when GP 16s would switch the paper plant that used to be located here. Seaboard would abandon this line around 1990. NS worked the paper plant until they stopped shipping by rail. This line was embargoed for years until Patriot Rail tried to make something of the line. They weren't successful. Iowa Pacific would take over and did okay until a tragic accident ended their run. Progressive rail would try their luck to some degree of success but couldn't turn a profit. Jaguar Transportation now runs the line DBA the Charlotte & Western. From what I understand, this is a growing venture, and more is to come.
