Steve Walker, founder and CEO of Ahoy-Boats sails with designer and creator, Aldis Eglajs, and his assistant, Edgars, in the prototype Catri 25 hydrofoiling trimaran. The stability of this boat is just one of the many things that makes it fast and safe. Speed, stability and safety go hand in hand. The hydrofoils are tuned to keep the boat just in contact with the water for safety, quite unlike the Americas Cup boats, the Hydroptere, Moths and all other foiling boats I've seen that seem to be balanced on a knife edge just ready to pitchpole. In fact the faster the CATRI 25 goes the more stable it becomes! It's amazing. The step in the hull is designed to keep the boat in foiling mode when in rough water. The mast is not merely auto-rotating, it may also be canted, easily, to windward so more sail is exposed to the wind and more power produced. The bowsprit can be moved laterally to optimise the flow of air around the jib and this bowsprit is self-tacking. Set it and forget it. There are 3 reefs in the mainsail and all the ropes (even for reefing) come to the cockpit so that the boat can be readily adapted for single-handed sailing by the addition of an autohelm. This boat is the bee's knees. A big step forward from the CATRI 24 that I sailed back from Latvia in 2005. Nothing short of spectacular! When I discovered the Catri 24 in 2004 I knew immediately that is was years ahead of its time. The Catri 25 has taken another leap into the future of sailing. Arrange you demo now.
