Verse of the day - 20 August 2025

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists.
Hebrews 11:6.

Thoughts on today's verse:

Hebrews 11:6 reminds us of the central importance of faith in our relationship with God. Faith is not merely an optional trait or an admirable quality—it is the very foundation upon which our connection with God is built. Without it, the verse says, it is impossible to please God. This statement highlights that God looks beyond our actions, rituals, and good deeds to see whether our hearts truly trust Him. Faith acknowledges that God exists even when we can't see or feel Him tangibly. It is a deep-rooted belief that God is real, present, and active in our lives, even in the unseen and the unknown. Our walk with God is not built on certainty of outcome, but on the certainty of His presence and character.

This verse also speaks of those who diligently seek Him. It does not speak of a casual curiosity or a passive interest in God, but of an intentional and persistent pursuit. To seek God diligently means to prioritize Him above all else, to long for His presence more than we long for His blessings, and to keep coming to Him even when circumstances make it hard. It’s about spending time in prayer, searching the Scriptures, and living with a continual desire to grow closer to Him. God promises to reward those who earnestly seek Him—not necessarily with material possessions, but with Himself, His peace, His guidance, and the joy of an intimate relationship with the Creator. This reward is far greater than anything the world could offer.

Faith as described in this verse is not static; it grows as we journey with God. It begins as a spark when we first believe in Him and grows through experiences, trials, answered prayers, and quiet moments of trust. Each act of faith builds our confidence in who God is and what He has promised. When we live by faith, we acknowledge that our lives are directed by a higher power who is good, loving, and trustworthy. Pleasing God, then, is not about being perfect but about believing in His nature and depending on Him. This daily trust is what brings joy to His heart and transformation to ours. It’s in this trusting relationship that we find purpose, peace, and the reward of knowing God more fully.

Prayer for the day:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that faith is the key to pleasing You. Today, I come before You with a heart that longs to believe more deeply and trust more fully. I admit that at times, doubt and fear cloud my view of who You are. But Lord, I choose to believe that You are real, that You are near, and that You love me beyond measure. I may not always see what You’re doing in my life, but I trust that You are working behind the scenes for my good and Your glory.

Help me to seek You earnestly, not just when I need something, but because I desire to know You more. Teach me to be consistent in prayer, faithful in reading Your Word, and sincere in worship. Strengthen my heart when the path seems unclear, and remind me that Your reward is not always what I expect—but it is always what I need. I want to grow in intimacy with You and walk in a faith that pleases You daily, even in the smallest decisions I make.

Lord, let my life reflect a heart that trusts You. Let my words, actions, and thoughts align with the faith I proclaim. Forgive me when I lean on my own understanding or when I try to control outcomes instead of surrendering to Your will. Today, I recommit my heart to live by faith and not by sight, to honor You in all I do, and to seek You above everything else. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
