Without a word of complaint, he recorded the song beautifully, only because he did not want the music directors Kalyanji-Anandji to face any trouble or delay. The song was approved in the very first take. But Lata Mangeshkar Ji was not satisfied with her own part and insisted that it should be recorded once more.

Rafi Sahab, being tired and fasting, wished to go home and rest. At that moment, lyricist Gulshan Bawra entered and gently revealed to Rafi Sahab that the song was actually being picturized on him (Bawra Ji). Without hesitation, Rafi Sahab took the microphone again, adjusted his singing style to match Gulshan Bawra’s personality, and delivered a performance that became immortal in history.
