The documentary film “Gernika, the story ” offers the most complete account to date of the local, national and
international dimensions of the events of that fateful day: The Bombing of Gernika.
• with the collaboration of historians Antony Beevor, Manuel Montero and Stefanie Schüler-Sprigorum
and military experts Jesús Salas Larrazábal, Klaus A. Maier and Ferdinando Pedriali;
• with journalistic input from Nicholas Rankin, biographer of George Steer, correspondent of the Times
and the New York Times, who informed the world of what had happened;
• with testimonies from Luis Iriondo, Andone Bidaguren, Pedro Baliño, Juan Miguel Bombín, Itziar
Arzanegi and Francisco García San Román, surviving witnesses of the bombing;
• with rigorous research into documents, photo archives and film archives including colour footage
of the ruins of the town taken in May 1937;
• using dramatised reconstruction and virtual imaging of some key incidents.
