Whenever words like quarantine, outbreak, virus, and pandemic are used, people usually imagine an apocalyptic world where human life has tossed and turned upside down. Many would define the COVID era as such, and if translated into music, this would likely be a somber, dark, and brooding composition heard in many modern zombie/outbreak games.
Mesce originally took this approach when arranging a piece with COVID outbreaks in mind, but a cordial talk with his best friend over Google Hangouts changed his mind quickly. Mentioning his arranging plans, Mesce started to list games that involve apocalypses until his friend said,

“Would Plants vs. Zombies count?”

Mesce couldn’t talk for a straight minute because of how unique and most of all, brilliant this idea was. Hence the inspiration for the track Zombies on Your Lawn from the widely acclaimed mobile game “Plants vs. Zombies” came to fruition.

Plants vs. Zombies takes a normally negative environment and puts a positive and fun spin to it. The premise is simple - deploy plants that’ll shoot pellets at zombies to keep them off of your lawn. If you need more energy, deploy sunflowers. Given the game’s silly and harmless demeanor, Mesce realized the arrangement could focus on positivity instead of a darker approach normally associated with apocalypses. Specifically, no matter how bad of a situation you’re in, there's a wealth of good to be found, if you remember to look hard enough. You get to connect with your friends. You’re alive, safe, healthy, and well. Most importantly of all, the best days are still ahead.

Right in the middle of 2020, this lesson couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.

Mesce sincerely hopes you feel the positivity in this arrangement, and that the biggest of our problems, one day, will simply be getting rid of zombies on our lawns.
