Isola Bella, Lago Maggiore - Italy Walking Tour

A visit to Lake Maggiore is not complete without an excursion to the islands: today we are walking around Isola Bella (literally Beautiful Island), with its famous italian park.
It's the closest island to Stresa, where we'll take the "battello" (ferry) to start our visit.
The main attraction of Isola Bella is the monumental baroque building of "Palazzo Borromeo" and it's grandiose terraced gardens.
The palace offers inestimable works of art in the form of tapestries, furniture, statues, paintings, plasters and mosaics, a triumph of the excess!
It took almost 400 years and the teamwork of hundreds of architects, engineers, plasterers, painters and cabinetmakers to transform Isola bella from an unimportant rocky island into the amazing place we see today.
The Borromeo family, owners of the nearby island of Isola Madre, decided to purchase the former called "Isola Inferiore" and transform it into something magnificent.

Isola Bella is usually open from mid-March through October, so don’t come in winter as the palace and gardens are closed!
