African Townships - Gwabalanda Magwegwe North |Bulawayo Zimbabwe vlog

#Gwabalanda is a medium density suburb. The suburb are residential zoning districts with a certain number of people per square foot.
The suburbs essentially started during the colonial times as people moved from rural areas to be closer to the cities where they would move in search of work. Initially the surburbs would separate residential and commercial areas from one another. Now they are either part of a city, or exist as a separate residential community within commuting distance of a city.

The town centre is a few minutes away and one can get to town by car or public transport.This is in contrast to suburbs in other parts of the world.I recently red a Bloomberg article titled “How to Tell If You Live in the Suburbs", in which they stated that The United States is a land of suburbs, with just one problem: No one’s quite clear what a “suburb” is. It stated that many people defined their neighbourhoods in part by their population density. But a whole host of other factors also made the prediction more accurate. For example, areas with higher median incomes were more likely to be called suburban. Areas with older homes were more likely to be called urban. Areas with lots of senior citizens were more frequently called rural.

Gwabalanda is in Bulawayo it is Named after one of the Ndebele chiefs, Gwabalanda Mathe. He was the first chief to be appointed by King Mzilikazi. Gwabalanda Mathe lived at Mhlahlandlela and his chieftainship lineage still exists in the Umzingwane District.

I’m walking to Magwegwe north. #Magwegwe north is a High density surburb. Magwege The suburb name is named after Magwegwe, who was one of the significant people in King Lobengula's royal court. King Lobengula was the last king of the Ndebele and his monarchy collapsed in 1894 after it was raided by white settlers marking complete colonisation of present day Zimbabwe. Magwegwe North is a Reference to the position relative to that of magwegwe
