NEW 2023 MG 5 Electric Estate - Visual REVIEW

The MG 5 Electric Estate, one of only three electric estate cars on the market, has seen a significant revamp for 2023. The electric powertrain remains unchanged, but the vehicle now boasts a modern design and a revamped interior. The MG5's exterior has been redesigned with a more modern, angular nose, new lights, and new bumpers, giving it a fresh, contemporary look​​.

Although the MG5's dimensions have not changed, the interior has been significantly improved. The vehicle offers ample seating for four and a useful 479-litre boot. Furthermore, the dashboard has been completely redesigned with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument display, among other updates​​.

While the cabin isn't particularly striking in terms of unique design features, it's functional and solidly built. The new technology is a significant improvement over the previous model, offering a more user-friendly experience despite occasional issues with touchscreen responsiveness​​.

The MG 5 Electric comes equipped with fresh tech features. Even the base model will include the brand's iSmart technology, which allows drivers to access vehicle data such as charging information via a smartphone app. The car also includes Vehicle-to-load technology, enabling the car's battery to power anything with a three-pin plug​1​.

The MG5's performance remains impressive. Powered by a 115 kilowatts electric motor and a 61 kilowatt hour battery, the estate car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just under eight seconds when the Sport mode is engaged​​.

For most buyers, the efficiency and running costs of the MG5 are key considerations. The battery can provide a range of about 400 kilometers on a single charge, depending on driving conditions. The vehicle also features an 87 kilowatt on-board charging system that can charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 35 minutes with a suitable rapid charger. As for the driving experience, the vehicle offers a quiet, composed ride, with a suspension system that handles most road conditions well, though it can occasionally be caught out by potholes​​.
