2023 5 Morbidity and mortality auditing

In this session we discuss the principles of morbidity and mortality auditing, using the WHO guidelines. Many lessons can be learned from reviewing deaths that can help us improve services. But how to do it well, especially in busy environments? We will discuss how to engage nurses and junior doctors in ways that are not threatening or upsetting for those who have been involved in the care of children who have died. Good audit should confidential, non-blameful, practical, educational, and have a Quality Improvement Team that is responsible for implementation and follow-up of recommendations. And audit can help families and recognise the value of a child’s life.
