Sandy Springs, Georgia — On April 28, 2025, what began as a routine speed check quickly turned into a high-stakes pursuit on State Route 400. A Traffic Unit officer spotted a Jeep Wagoneer flying down the highway at 99 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. But the speeding wasn’t the only problem — the driver, later identified as Demario Grooms, was recklessly weaving through traffic like he was in a street race.

When the officer attempted a traffic stop, Grooms refused to comply and hit the gas, triggering a dangerous chase. During the pursuit, he drove in the emergency lane and completely ignored traffic control devices, putting lives at risk in the process. The chase eventually came to an end when Grooms was stopped and taken into custody without further incident — but the list of charges against him is serious.
