The third edition of VOICES takes us through the artistic journeys and processes of Chennai-based art collective Kinetics Madras- represented by Sunil Sree and Aneesh Kalode Rajan, in conversation with Chennai-based art historian/critic/author/curator Ms. Ashrafi Bhagat.

Kinetics, like the word signifies, is a dynamic entity both conceptually and in terms of its members. The Kinetics group was formed when the artists felt that a collective identity would not only stimulate their own art practices, but also make them a more effective catalyst in energising the local art scene. The group comprises of 9 artists, working together as a collective, for more than 13 years. They showcase a rich, diverse tapestry of art practices, varied in terms of materials and scale, and presented as a mix of abstracts, sculptures, photography, video and mixed media.
At present, the members of the group are K. Dilip Kumar, G. Gurunathan, S. Kumaresan, S.P. Saravanan, P. Suresh Kumar, K.R. Aneesh, Sunil Sree, V. Yuvaraj and Yuvan Bothisathuvar.
Ms. Ashrafi S. Bhagat. Ph.D, was the Former Head and Associate Professor, Department of Fine Arts, Stella Maris College [Autonomous], Chennai. She is an independent Art Historian, Art Critic, Author and Curator. She has written several books, essays and monographs on eminent Madras artists. She also writes on modern and contemporary art in magazines and journals.
She has written over 250 catalogue essays for the artists, and presented papers at seminars at national level in various cities.
VOICES is a yearlong arts-archival collaboration between Ravi Cavale/Serendip Art and The Hashtag#Collective to investigate the creative present through conversations between artists and art writers.
Voices is an initiative to keep the art conversation going in these difficult Covid times, in a meaningful and reflective way, from a South Indian based platform. The aim is to hear the voice of the artist within a curated context set up by the Arts Writer/Curator who is moderating the session.
