Quite a late entry in the genrenof 2D sideways scrolling brawlers, Gaia Crusaders certainly looks the part. This has some cool artwork and animation, which definitely has an SNK vibe to it.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the gameplay to be particularly satisfying. The animation system tends to lock you into combat moves once started, which tends to leave you exposed to counterattacks, as well as enemies creeping up behind.

The game's main selling point is the elemental powers system. Globes containing one of the natural elements can be collected, each of which can be activated at will to unleash a super move based on the element type. It's a pretty cool being able to summon whirling tornadoes or pillars of flame, but there's always that nagging feeling the main combat isn't quite as good as it should be.
