Featured is Kobe shoulder/head faking baseline side off a live back-down dribble, finishing with his classic strong side fade. He used it more commonly on the left block/mid-post, not as much airborne turn necessary being a right handed shooter. Whether subtle or exaggerated, the upper body movement is a method of creating space, ultimately the primary thing basketball “moves” are designed to accomplish. The fadeaway itself helps in maintaining separation.

Kobe shakes his defender out of their shoes in quite a few of these clips, most notably at 0:08, 1:42, 2:09, 3:29, and 4:00. However, even the slightest pause or lack of timely reaction allows Kobe to elevate and release virtually unbothered. Notice the footwork as well, vast majority include that split/jump-stop landing on both feet simultaneous with the shoulder misdirection. He also drops that bottom foot deep as one would on a drop-step or spin towards the basket. A good example of this is at 2:40, rookie Jeff Green falls for all of it.

Thanks to ‪@nonplayerzealot4‬ for a handful of clips.
