Ski Mountaineering in South West Tasmania

Описание к видео Ski Mountaineering in South West Tasmania

In the winter of 2015 Tasmania had its coldest winter in almost 50 years with many of its mountains being covered in large amounts of snow (well for Tassie anyway). Major roads were temporarily closed and it was difficult to get access to the mountains. A few days after the biggest dump the road was finally opened to the South West. A few hours later I was on my way to Mt Anne. It is rare to be able to ski below the Eliza Plateau however I was able to ski from well below High Camp and then all the way back to the hut at the end of my trip. Unfortunately I only had the weekend and no one else was available to go so it ended up being a quick solo trip utilising skis and crampons. Keen to get back there with a strong group and do the full circuit in similar conditions however this would certainly require ice-axes, crampons and some ropework.

Huge thanks to Hyperlite Mountain Gear for the amazing UltaMid shelter and pack. Travelling lightweight in winter with bombproof gear makes all the difference!
