Complications after Gynecomastia Surgery / গাইনেকোমেস্টিয়া সাইড এফেক্ট

Blood (Hematoma):
It is an immediate complication, where blood is collected inside the breast and is evident within 4-6 hours of surgery. Such collection is best managed by early surgical evacuation.

Serum (Seroma):
It is collection of yellowish body fluid (serum) inside the breast and it can be seen up to 7 -10 days after surgery. It is best prevented by pressure garments. Small collection is common and gets absorbed into body automatically, however, for large collection, aspiration by needle and use of pressure is sufficient.

Hanging skin:
This may happens with gynecomastia of Grade 2B, Grade 3 and patient came after weight reduction, as they already had skin excess. Such patients can be treated during surgery with peri-areolar skin excision; or alternatively the skin may be allowed to retract for next six months, and final resection, it at all necessary, can be done thereafter. These patients are strictly advised to use full compression garments for at least 6 months.

Loss of Sensation:
here may be temporary or permanent loss of sensation over the liposuction area, especially of the nipple areola complex. The chance increases if large gland has to be removed by excision.

Scar:
Human skin injury heals by scarring. But to keep it invisible, small incisions are made, they are hidden axilary fold, or placed over the black areola, which further fades by next 6 months. However, few individual have a tendency of bad scaring, which can be difficult to manage even if with a good scar management protocol.
