Today I'm putting up both sides of one of the weirdest and wildest records I play. Side A is a dreamy combination of two of the finest and most unusual instruments in postwar American - the amphibious baritone of Bob "Froggy" Landers and the distorted unitar of Willie Joe Duncan. Froggy Landers and his Cough Drops have another classic I turn, "River Rock" (gotta get it up here post-haste!) and his voice never breaks character. Give that voice a listen, Landers makes the great Clarence "Frogman" Henry seem terrestrial and human. And take a look behind Landers and check out that wild twangy vibration banging against the syncopated beat! Willie Joe's unitar is, as it implies, a one-stringed instrument, a cumbersome diddley bo taller than the tall man himself (check out a photo on The Hound's boss blog - link below). Hear it on the instrumental flip side, the stunning, "Unitar Rock"! I wonder what genius decided to pair these two monstrous superheroes? Bumps Blackwell? Art Rupe himself? A meeting of the minds and two great flavors that belong together... Why wasn't this the number one record in America? Why weren't there more recordings? And a touring band? How could this explosive combination not take over the world? Maybe it was too good? And needed to be suppressed by J. Edgar Hoover? Not to start any conspiracy theories, but I guess we'll have to make do living in a world that contains only this lone track from the dynamic duo...

I used to mix this in with Alan Vega's "Jukebox Baby"...
