Cantus Michaelis cond. Kirsi Kaunismäki-Suhonen
comp. Eero Koivisroinen
lyrics Hannu Salama

A couple of years ago I came across with "Suomalainen sarja" (The Finnish Suite) by a Finnish composer called Eero Koivistoinen. The first piece of the suite "Harmaaparta hallanvaara" (Greybeard Frost Danger) coagulated my bloodstream and aroused a wish: If only I had a choir some day with which I could express the nuances and feelings of this piece.
The choir is Cantus Michaelis. It is a representative choir of the music classes in the city of Mikkeli, which was established in 1985 by a music class teacher Erkki Seppälä. From year 2010 the choir has been conducted by Kirsi Kaunismäki-Suhonen.
Frost danger is a familiar concept for Finnish people. "Frost" means the nightly freeze during the growing season and the "danger" its risk. The less vulnerable places for frost are the hills and the shores of the waterways and the seas, whereas valleys are the most prone to frost. Therefore choose carefully the place where you intend to listen to our record.
