The routine begins with cleansing to wash away overnight buildup of oil, dirt, and dead skin. A mild, sulfate free cleanser is best to avoid irritation. For oily or acne prone skin, foaming cleansers with salicylic acid work well, while dry skin benefits from ceramide based cleansers that restore moisture.
The second step is hydration. Overnight, the skin loses water through a natural process called transepidermal water loss, so every skin type needs a moisturizer. Lightweight, non comedogenic formulas keep the skin balanced. Even oily skin needs hydration, otherwise it produces more oil to compensate.
Step three is antioxidant protection. Serums like Vitamin C and Niacinamide help fight damage from pollution and UV rays. Vitamin C works best for normal to dry skin to brighten and fade pigmentation, while Niacinamide suits oily or acne prone skin as it controls oil and helps reduce breakouts.
The most important step in any morning skincare routine is sunscreen. Apply it using the two finger rule to cover the face and neck, including the eyelids, under eyes, and ears. Gel based sunscreens are ideal for oily or acne prone skin, cream based for dry skin, and tinted formulas are suitable for all.
Optional add ons include benzoyl peroxide gel for spot acne treatment or kojic acid serums for pigmentation. Remember, sunscreen should always be the final step in your morning routine.
