On Feb 1, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the basic custom duty of certain parts of smartphones' cameras has been reduced, which means it will be paid by the manufacturers. But, it remains to be seen whether it will make any impact on consumers as it will depend on smartphone companies. During her budget speech, Sitharaman said, "Mobile production in India has increased from 5.8 crore units valued at about Rs 18, 900 crore in 2014-2015 to 31 crore units values at Rs 2,075 crore in the last financial year."
