This is a very quick video to show how the inside of a 3-port valve works.

Typically 3-port valves are found on gravity heating and hot water systems with a hot water cylinder.

On this particular job the original 3-port valve had gone faulty and had stuck in the hot water only position meaning the heating would not work. I wired the new 3-port valve up before swapping it over to confirm the wiring was correct as the customer had "messed" with the wiring trying to install a new smart heating controller.
