SHORTY 80-10m EFHW , ZIGZAGGED in the snowy backyard fights in the 80m contest!

Описание к видео SHORTY 80-10m EFHW , ZIGZAGGED in the snowy backyard fights in the 80m contest!

This shortened to a half-size 80-10 meter bands End Fed Half Wave Ham Radio antenna is being used in the extreme situation. After heavy snow storms my major full-size EFHW antenna got broken and there was no way to quickly re-install it before the National Day Celebration Contest. So I decided to zigzag the Shorty EFHW from my shack's window on the second floor of my house down into my small backyard. In a way, it was a simulation of an emergency situation, kinda' "radio prepping" exercise. And it worked! I've made 50 QSO's in one-hour contest. Well, it was 37 contacts less compare to the last year's score when I was running the big antenna, but certainly it was much better than taking no part in the contest at all!

The shortened, 23 m overall length , coil-loaded End Fed antenna proved its usefulness in different situations. The full video on this antenna make and field test is elsewhere on my channel:

Please let me know below in the comments how are you bending and zigzagging your antennas, what is your experience with small backyard's radio hobby!
