How to Calculate Octane Number and Cetane number - Combustion of Liquid Fuels

Описание к видео How to Calculate Octane Number and Cetane number - Combustion of Liquid Fuels

HOW TO CALCULATE OCTANE NUMBER AND CETANE NUMBER. This is the calculation of octane and cetane number of a liquid fuel by exhaust gas analysis or combustion.

The combustion phenomena of liquid fuels is characterize by octane rating (octane no.) for a gasoline, and cetane rating (cetane no.) for a diesel.
Octane no. refers to a gasoline’s ability to resist premature ignition due to compression. A good quality fuel with high octane rating ignites only due to a spark by a spark plug.
Cetane no. indicates ignitability of a diesel fuel. i.e., the speed of self-ignition of diesel fuel when ignited. The higher the cetane number, the less is the ignition time and more efficient fuel burning.

OCTANE NO. - The % v/v of iso-octane in an iso-octane - heptane mixture
CETANE NO. - The % v/v of iso-cetane in an iso-cetane – 1-methylnaphthalene mixture
