In this video the talented multi-percussionist Todd Roach explains the exceptionality of Majid Drums new Darbuka. Todd is definitely an artist that knows what he´s talking about, considering that he has been studying the world of Middle Eastern, North African and South Indian percussion since 1989. His teachers and influences include master drummers like Vince Delgado and Glen Velez. Nowadys Todd is a active performer, teacher and producer living in Vermont, USA.

Majid Drums "Darbuka" is truly a world novelty that combines characteristics of both traditional and modern versions of the instrument. While keeping its original terracotta optic, Majid has given this Darbuka an aluminium body, which adds to its durability and simplifies the transportation of the drum while keeping it at the same weight as the original ones made of clay.

In true Majid Drums fashion, a screw-system enables the player to tune this Darbuka without heating up the skin. This systems helps to maintain the quality of the drum´s surface.
As far as the surface goes, you can choose between four natural skins: fish, deer, goat and calf.

More about Todd Roach:
As a multi-percussionist, Todd has had the opportunity to perform many styles of music with a diverse group of artists. In recent years, he has been appearing with the Paul Winter Consort. He has also performed with Lebanese violinist Georges Lammam, Gospel singer Theresa Thomason, Flamenco musicians Carlos Denia and Tino van der Sman, Jazz pianist Eugene Uman, South Indian vocalist K.S. Resmi, cellist Eugene Friesen, and world percussionists N. Scott Robinson and Shane Shanahan.

Some of his other highlights include multiple workshops and performances at Tamburi Mundi, in Freiburg, Germany, and for the North American Frame Drum Association in Vermont, New Jersey, Toronto and St. Louis. Todd has also composed and performed for theater productions with the Vermont Theatre Company, the New England Youth Theater and the Sandglass Theater.
He has also worked extensively with percussionist N. Scott Robinson and performed with Glen Velez, Yshai Afterman and David Kuckhermann.

Roach is an educator that has taught percussion-based residencies and clinics in schools and festivals in the U.S., Canada, South America and Europe. Todd is active in his local community as well, serving as the founder and co-director of two education programs in Brattleboro, the Kindle Farm School Music and Arts Program and The Loft Youth Percussion Ensemble.
